La Masia and the AECC promoting a solidarity oil for breast cancer research

The Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC) and La Masía have presented today the initiative «Aceite de Oliva Solidario» (Solidarity Olive Oil). The goal of the challenge – which starts today and ends on October 19, World Day Against Breast cancer – is to fund with 50,000 euros the breast cancer research project directed by Dr. Joaquín Seras at the Vall d’Hebron Research Institute (VHIR). The researcher works at the Pharmacological Release and Targeting group, directed by Dr. Simó Schwartz Jr. at the CIBBIM Nanomedicine, to study cancer stem cells against drug release systems.

La Masía has already contributed half of the amount (€ 25,000), but to cover the whole amount different actions have been set in motion. Among them is an exclusive pink bottle (limited edition) of «classical» olive oil that is already available in supermarkets so that each person that buys it can donate 5 cents to the research project.

In addition, a crowdfunding platform has been enabled on the website of the Association to make donations: www.miretocontraelcancer.aecc.es/reto/lamasia. The contributions will help to achieve this solidarity challenge and we will be able to keep track of the funds at any time.
